We are responsible for street nameplates in the district. We have to make sure that all street nameplates are in good condition and readable. This is so that organisations like the post office and the emergency services can do their work efficiently and so people can find their way around easily. It is illegal to remove, damage or put notices or stickers on or near a street nameplate.
We are not responsible for damaged road signs such as speed limit signs. These should be reported via the Highways online fault reporting service.
Due to a high number of requests for replacement/repairs to street name plates, we are currently having to prioritise the most urgent cases. If you are reporting an issue which will require a full replacement sign, this work is likely to take some time and our current estimate is that such works will not be carried out before 1 April 2023.
Before you start
You will need to tell us:
- • the exact location of the nameplate
- • the condition of the nameplate
