We are responsible for street nameplates in the district. We have to make sure that all street nameplates are in good condition and readable. This is so that organisations like the post office and the emergency services can do their work efficiently and so people can find their way around easily. It is illegal to remove, damage or put notices or stickers on or near a street nameplate.
We are not responsible for damaged road signs such as speed limit signs. These should be reported via the Cumbria Highways online fault reporting service.
The council are currently only able to carry out minor repairs to existing signs, any requests for replacement signs will need to be submitted after the 1st April 2023.
Before you start
You will need to tell us:
- • the exact location of the nameplate
- • the condition of the nameplate
